Chapter History

The Sigma Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded at Clayton State University on April 24, 2005. As charter members, thirteen distinguished women laid the foundation for excellence, sisterhood, and service. LaShae Hutcherson, Sandra Emmanuel, Ursula Patterson, Shamecqua Ross, Paula Willliams, N’Kiesha Douglas, Stephanie McKee, Keyana Burnett, Jennifer Barnes, Natalie Atkinson, Ashley Lott, April Taylor, and Paige Perry are the exceptional women who established a lasting legacy, inspiring generations of like-minded women to unite, excel, and leave a lasting positive impact on Clayton State University's campus.

Since its founding, Sigma Sigma Chapter members have been recognized for both individual and chapter academic achievements, including having the highest individual and highest Chapter cumulative GPAs in 2018; having members serve as Alpha Kappa Alpha Leadership Fellows; and receiving awards such as the South Atlantic Region’s prestigious Stella J. Lett Award and Clayton State University Fraternity and Sorority Council’s Outstanding Chapter of the Year Awards in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The chapter’s signature programs include Pillow Talk (Self-Care event), Be Your Own SHE-Ro (Women’s Empowerment event), the Big Hat Tea Party (Scholarship event), the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and Ivy League Study Sessions, to name a few. The Sigma Sigma Chapter's legacy of excellence and commitment to service continues to shine through their outstanding members, programs and impactful campus presence, leaving an enduring positive mark on Clayton State University's campus and beyond!
